چکیده

2014 The scaling forms of the surface magnetization and susceptibility are determined for critical wetting in three bulk dimensions. The naive phenomenological scaling predictions are confirmed for model I systems, but there are logarithmic corrections associated with systems exhibiting model II, III behaviour Questions raised by a recent numerical simulation are also briefly addressed. Properties of the solvation force of a two-dimensional Ising strip in scaling regimes

We consider d = 2 Ising strip with surface fields acting on boundary spins. Using the properties of the transfer matrix spectrum we identify two pseudotransition temperatures and show that they satisfy similar scaling relations as expected for real transition temperatures in strips with d > 2. The solvation force between the boundaries of the strip is analysed as a function of temperature, surf...

What controls the thickness of wetting layers near bulk criticality?

We study the thickness of wetting layers in the binary-liquid mixture cyclohexane methanol. Far from the bulk critical point, the wetting layer thickness is independent of temperature, resulting from the competition between van der Waals and gravitational forces. Upon approaching the bulk critical temperature [t=(T(c)-T)/T(c)-->0], we observe that the wetting layer thickness diverges as t(-beta...

Critical Casimir effect in three-dimensional Ising systems: measurements on binary wetting films.

The critical Casimir force (CF) is observed in thin wetting films of a binary liquid mixture close to the liquid/vapor coexistence. X-ray reflectivity shows thickness (L) enhancement near the bulk consolute point. The extracted Casimir amplitude Delta(+-)=3+/-1 agrees with the theoretical universal value for the antisymmetric 3D Ising films. The onset of CF in the one-phase region occurs at L/x...

Wedge covariance for 2 D filling and wetting

A comprehensive theory of interfacial fluctuation effects occurring at 2D wedge (corner) filling transitions in pure (thermal disorder) and impure (random bond-disorder) systems is presented. Scaling theory and the explicit results of transfer matrix and replica trick studies of interfacial Hamiltonian models reveal that, for almost all examples of intermolecular forces, the critical behaviour ...

3D short-range wetting and nonlocality.

Analysis of a microscopic Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson model of 3D short-ranged wetting shows that correlation functions are characterized by two length scales, not one, as previously thought. This has a simple diagrammatic explanation using a nonlocal interfacial Hamiltonian and yields a thermodynamically consistent theory of wetting in keeping with exact sum rules. For critical wetting the second l...
